About

How the foundation got started.

The foundation is named for Ms. Dorothy, a mother who raised her children with very little and still gave what she could. After Ms. Dorothy passed, Josephine Kemp, a close friend of Dorothy's son Anthony, wanted to honor that kind of strength in a practical way. Josephine had raised three children of her own and knew how hard it can be to keep going without much support.

Anthony has passed too. Josephine carries both of their memories into the work: helping people who need someone to notice, care, and act.

"As a mother with three kids and not much else but faith, hope, and pursuits of happiness… the families we serve aren't strangers. I've been one of them. I've walked in their shoes and know how it feels, and how it hurts, to watch mothers trying to provide for their children."

— Josephine Kemp, Founder

Today, the foundation is based in Virginia and supports outreach in Nigeria through Gray Hill International School, local volunteers, churches, and family connections.

Programs

What we do.

Our work is simple on purpose: collect what families need, get it into the right hands, and keep the process personal.

Food support

Active

Quarterly food parcels for families in Nigeria. We focus on staples like rice, oil, beans, and basics that stretch a household budget through the month.

Clothing drives

Active

Seasonal collections of clothing for women, children, and school uniforms. Distributed in person at community sites and church partners.

Local outreach

Virginia

Check-ins, drop-offs, and partnerships with churches and shelters around the Virginia metro area. We go where families already are.

International outreach

Nigeria

Food and supply distributions in Lagos, Ogun, and Ilorin, with Kogi planned next. Through Gray Hill International School and local volunteers, we have reached 35-50 families so far.

Education & health

Phase 2

Next, we are working toward scholarships for children and basic health support for women and families. This part of the work is still being planned.

Who runs this

Josephine.

Josephine Kemp leads the foundation day to day. She organizes drives, works with partner churches and Gray Hill International School, packs parcels, answers donation messages, and keeps careful records. There is no large staff behind the scenes. It is Josephine, a few volunteers, and the people who keep saying yes.

She came to the United States from Nigeria as a single mother of three. The work the foundation does isn't theoretical to her.

In memory of Ms. Dorothy, whose strength inspired this foundation, and Anthony, her son and Josephine's dear friend.
